Winter Skincare Essentials

Winter can be incredibly harsh on the skin. . . well, anywhere other than Southern California that is. Winter doesn’t really exist in LA but we all like to pretend it does. It’s hilarious to me that everyone gears up for the colder climate when our “cold” is really not cold at all. Even though we’re in total denial about “winter” I still like to think taking precautionary measures with my skincare somehow benefits the slight weather changes.

My skin does get a little more dry and lackluster this time of year. In order to avoid all the trouble, I change-up my skincare game and use products that are aimed towards moisture and replenishment. Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite products to use this time of year. Check below for all the deets!

I like to start with the eyes because it’s the most sensitive/delicate area on your face. Taking care of your eyes is like taking care of your heart, it acts as a central operator to all of the other parts. My two favorite eye creams differ from day to night.

During the day, I love to amp up the brightness and decrease any puffiness that may be left over from the previous night. I’ve used this eye cream for years and it’s still my “go to” every single morning. I’m not kidding you when I say I literally look forward to putting this eye cream on because I know the moment I do, my eyes will look 100% better.

At night, I like to focus on moisture so I tend to go for the most hydrating products on the market. I just recently fell back in love with this oldie but goodie eye cream from Clinique. It does the job at providing optimal moisture to the eye area while I sleep. I wake up with puff-free, hydrated and replenished eyes.

With skincare, there are always multiple products you should be using because they do different things. Now, don’t think I’m insane when I say this but using layers or multiple products at once can make all the difference in the world. It’s all about texture and utilizing what your skin will soak up most. In other words, use serum religiously! If you want to see a major change in the texture, elasticity, suppleness and overall quality of your skin use a serum (you’ll thank me later).

With that being said, the base of my moisture routine begins with a quality nighttime serum. I tend to use my most luxurious, moisture rich serum during the night because that’s the optimal time your skin will soak up the product. For the past month, I’ve been using probably the most expensive/luxerious serum I’ve ever used in my life and there’s  really no going back. My skin has literally never looked better.

During the day, I like to use a serum that is gentle and suits my sensitive skin. I try to go for more natural and organic brands that don’t have any harsh chemicals or free radicals. Your serum is the first thing you put on your face so having the most natural and chemical-free products for your face should be a priority.

The core to any solid skincare routine is all about your main source of moisturization. For me, this means investing in really good moisturizer for both day and night.

During the day, my primary focus is SPF and age prevention. I opt for products that have a high SPF and offer any age prevention ingredients. Not to mention, I also take into consideration the ingredients. If you can’t already tell, I’m a sucker for organic or plant-based products simply because I feel like my skin reacts much better to natural products and I feel 100% better about what I’m putting on my face.

My nighttime moisturizer is super important. Since I know this is the prime time to allow any product to really do it’s job, I tend to be a bit more picky about what I moisturize with at night. Moisturization, hydration and creating suppleness are my primary focus for any good nighttime mositurizer.

Aside from eye creams, serums and moisturizers, a really good setting spray makes all the difference. I tend to use setting sprays for lots of different purposes. I use them to not only set my makeup but to give my skin a super hydrating feel and texture. I also enjoy using them after applying moisturizer. I’ll use a setting spray on days when I’m not wearing makeup just to lock in the moisturizer.

Now remember, you can use all of the best skincare products in the world but you won’t really see results if you don’t take care of yourself internally first. Making sure you have a good diet and excercise routine is crucial in order for your skin to radiate on the outside. The most important piece of advice I can give you is HYDRATION. Water is literally the key to life. It’s the key and secret of all secrets to amazing skin. If you’re ever wondering why you’ve investing in amazing skincare and have a solid routine, take a look at what you’re consuming and how much water you’re drinking on a daily basis. You will start seeing an incredible difference in your skin with the quality of foods your consuming and the amount of water you’re drinking.

As always, thank you so much for your support. I love you and remember to always stay true to yourself because life is too damn short to be anything but happy.

Sending all the love and blessings your way.

xoxo
